Meet Garcia HM and Shelly Reichart
In 2015, a phone call from Melissa Gelatt sparked the beginning of an extraordinary partnership for Shelly Reichart. Entrusted with the young and green-broke purebred Lusitano stallion, Garcia HM, Shelly’s initial reservations about taking on a stallion were overcome by Melissa’s conviction, leading Garcia to Shelly’s Paradigm farm in Lake Mills, Wisconsin.
Under the skilled guidance of Shelly’s assistant, Jackie Zimmermann, Garcia embarked on his dressage journey in 2016 at USDF Training & First Level.
In 2017, Shelly assumed the reins, training and competing Garcia at USDF Second Level. “What a different ride this was—I became smitten with him.” A year later, she seized the opportunity to make Garcia her own, marking the beginning of a remarkable chapter.
In those first few years, Garcia consistently impressed with his impeccable behavior. The charismatic stallion captured Shelly’s heart, and their bond flourished, leading them to become dressage partners.
“With the support of her coach, Linda Zang, and the guidance of her mom, Sheri Reichart, Shelly and Garcia ascended through the dressage ranks. In 2023, they reached FEI Grand Prix – the highest international level of dressage. Shelly reflects, “Garcia HM is at the very beginning of what I hope is a long, successful FEI Grand Prix career.”
The sweetest surprise came this year when I learned of Garcia HM earning the IALHA High Point Breed award [at the USDF Finals] ” Shelly shares. “He is my knight in white, always demonstrating his intelligence, showmanship, kindness, and integrity, no matter if we’re training, competing, or simply snuggling in his stall.”
Garcia HM stands at the threshold of what Shelly hopes is a long and successful career. Her focus remains on savoring every moment they spend together, whether training, competing, or simply enjoying each other’s company.
Looking ahead, Shelly plans to compete in internationally rated dressage competitions (CDIs), relishing the joy of riding this extraordinary horse, and cherishing the bond they’ve developed.
“Melissa was right years ago; he is a very special horse, and I’m honored to be his human.”
